Sheng Peng: Why Has LA Power Play Come Alive? What season-long usage problem have the Kings solved? What has the struggling power play done well this year?

It helps when DD doesn't just hold the puck for 8-12 seconds every time he touches it! That drives me nuts, he takes his sweet ass time with the puck at the point. I really with more Kings would practice the one-timer and the passes that set them up!

Come alive? It's 3 games with very good performance that rocketed our standing to 25th. Perhaps instead of coming alive, it is just a cadaveric spasm.

Not sure where the Kings got the idea that Doughty had the same one-time ability as Ovechkin from the top of the left circle, but half the time he cant even put the thing on net. Instead it rims around and out. So count me as excited about going to four forwards that look for an open shot and rebound. Its a big improvement. Who knew Sutter pays attention to research on hockey analytics (or is this just the blind squirrel finding the nut?).

living in the bay area i get to see the sharks play their 4f/1d pp well, and the one thing they do exceedingly well to keep the pk guessing is their use of not just movement with the puck but also high screens and deflections that aren't necessarily just from the netfront presence. it forces the kill to account for the high slot man more closely, and also allows one of the F on the wings to crash down to outnumber further.

its a great alignment, and glad the kings have adjusted to it, be it out of necessity (from lack of d options) or not.

If DD unleashed a shot and got it through even half as much as Chewy does, our PP would be much better... Although we don't have a tip-master like Pavelski.

They are playing too tight and griping their sticks . It's like another poster said, they are holding on to the puck too long, especially Doughty.

It was that against Montreal, they played a more wide open style and moved they puck relatively quickly that they were able to pop in a few goals. I'm not sure how many games they would win playing that style but it sure does help on the PP.

Both very possibly true haha.

I need to check the numbers, but I don't think Doughty missing the net has been so much the problem. That said, I do prefer Carter at the left circle.

Regardless of personnel or scheme, it's all about puck movement on the power play. I think I'm seeing LA use a little more 1-3-1 on their power plays, which is conducive to quick puck movement, but I'll have to go back and check.

agree, 88 is able to get his shots on net, and his wrist shot from the point is pretty heavy.

as for 8, he definitely is great on tips but he's also good at doing it from just about anywhere, not just a foot in front of the blue paint every time.
